Kotabaru develops port to realize regional connectivity - ANTARA News Kalimantan Selatan

Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Regency Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, continues to push for port infrastructure development to strengthen regional connectivity, improve public services, and support economic growth.

Kotabaru Regent H Muh Rusli said that port development is crucial part of the government's effort to enhance connectivity and open up better access for the community.

“We want port development to provide great benefits to the people of Kotabaru, especially in improving connectivity, facilitating mobility of people and goods, and supporting regional economic activities," he said when visiting the South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Banjarbaru, Tuesday (September 22, 2026).

According to him, infrastructure development must be done through careful planning and coordination across sector, including with agency that have authority in conservation and environment.

“We certainly pay attention to the environment aspect. Development must go hand in hand with effort to preserve nature. Therefore, an audience with BKSDA is an important part of getting input and ensuring that the plan we are doing in accordance with the rule,” he continued.

Head of the BKSDA Agus Ngurah Krisna K, in a letter dated September 17, 2026, stated that this coordination is expected to strengthen synergy between the government of Kotabaru and BKSDA. Thus, the port development plan could be prepared comprehensively, while adhering to provisions of conservation and environmental sustainability.

The Regent's visit discussed the ferry port development plan, as well as consultation and coordination on various aspects that must be considered in the implementation of development plan.
