Indonesia eyes growth in domestic premium tourism market - ANTARA News Jawa Timur

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry has stepped up efforts to boost the domestic premium tourism market through a forum dubbed Luxury Business Networking, connecting 11 tourism businesses with at least 25 potential buyers.

The event, which showcased luxury tourism packages priced at more than Rp15 million (US$800) per person, was designed to help tourism businesses expand their markets and explore opportunities centered on destinations across Indonesia.

“We seek to ensure that Indonesians’ money circulates domestically through world-class premium tourism products,” Tourism Ministry Deputy for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini said in a statement here on Tuesday.

She said escalating geopolitical tensions and global economic uncertainty had influenced travel behavior worldwide, including Indonesians’ decisions to travel overseas.

The trend, she added, presents an opportunity for Indonesian tourism businesses to further tap into the domestic premium tourism market by attracting more local travelers.

Marthini underscored the importance of tourism businesses capitalizing on the sector’s growth, citing 1.20 billion domestic tourism trips recorded in 2025, a 17.53-percent increase from the previous year.

She also pointed to 630.41 million domestic tourism trips recorded in the first half of 2026, representing a 2.71-percent increase from the same period last year.

She said the strong figures presented businesses with an opportunity to attract more Indonesians to quality tourism services across the country, with offerings centered on comfort, privacy, unique experiences, and personalized itineraries.

Against this backdrop, Marthini said the Tourism Ministry sought to facilitate premium tourism businesses in expanding their networks with potential partners and high-end travelers.

She encouraged businesses to diversify their products to attract more domestic tourists to quality tourism services at destinations across Indonesia.

The ministry expects the expansion of premium tourism to generate greater benefits for businesses and local communities in tourist destinations, she said.
